Signs Your Furnace Needs Attention
These are the symptoms our technicians hear described most often on a first call. Any of them is worth a look before the next cold front.
Yellow or flickering flames
A healthy gas flame burns steady and blue. Yellow or flickering flames indicate an incomplete combustion problem and should be inspected promptly. This is a safety item, not a performance one. See furnace repair.
Unusual sounds or odors
Banging, rattling or squealing usually points at the blower assembly or ignition sequence. Unusual odors on the first burn of the season are often dust, but they can also indicate something that needs correcting.
Frequent cycling or weak heat
A furnace that turns on and off repeatedly, or that runs without warming the house, is working harder than it should and burning more energy for less result. Often a filter, airflow or control problem.
It will not light at all
